cleaning

Does it feel like life is so busy with chores and work that you don’t have time to exercise? Getting fit for summer can feel like an overwhelming task when you don’t have time to workout. But what if you could tackle some of your “must do” household chores and burn some extra calories?

The following tasks will help you shed extra pounds while being productive.

Vacuum

The push and pull motion of vacuuming can burn up to 100 calories per hour. So take your time. Work your way around the entire house. Get into all the nooks and crannies where dirt likes to hide, such as under the couch and behind door jams.

Take it up a Notch: As you vacuum, do mini lunges to increase your calorie burn and help you tighten those leg muscles.

Wash Dishes

Did you just throw a dinner party and now you have a mess of dishes sitting in the sink? Perfect! An hour of washing and drying dishes can burn up to 100 calories!

Take it up a Notch: After drying each dish, raise it over your head once. This will help you build strength in your core and shoulders.

Unload the Dishwasher

You might not burn a full 100 calories with this one. Because let’s be real, who takes a full hour to unload their dishwasher? But, the full body motion of removing and putting away dishes can help you raise your heart rate!

Take it up a Notch: Do a squat every time you remove a dish.

Mow the Grass

Did you know, mowing the lawn can burn more calories than power walking? What’s the catch? You have to use a push mower! The riding ones don’t count.

Take it up a Notch: Empty your clippings while your lawn mower is at the far end of the lawn. This helps you increase your steps as you reach the yard waste bin.

Scrub the Shower

Let your shower sparkle. Scrubbing down the walls can burn up to 100 calories for every 30 minutes!

Take it up a Notch: Add some music and dance moves to the mix. The more you move, the more calories you’ll burn.
