Some colors go out of style. Neon green. Magenta. Orange.

Other colors are classic. They have stood the test of time and they aren’t likely to go out of style in the foreseeable future. One of these colors is blue.

While there will be an ebb and flow in shade preferences, blue isn’t a trendy choice you’ll want to swap out immediately.

Blue is also an incredibly calming color. It evokes a sense of cleanliness and order. When it comes to your bathroom, this makes blue an excellent choice. Is blue the best choice? Maybe. And maybe not.

The best choice is really about your preference. To start incorporating blue into your bathroom’s design, use these tips. See how you feel about blue and then go from there.

  • Avoid Selecting Major Features in Blue – If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it 1,000 times – buy your major features in neutral colors, such as beige, white, and cream. Major features include your sink, shower, toilet, and tub. These are typically the most expensive items in your bathroom. Buying them in neutral colors will allow you to update the theme of your bathroom without dropping a pretty penny.
  • Keep Wall Colors Soft – Really want blue walls? Great! They can be lovely. But, dark blue walls can make your bathroom feel like a cave. To keep the space light and airy, opt for a softer blue on your walls.
  • Use Darker Accent Pieces – For touches of darker blue, look to your accent pieces. These could include your bathmat and towels. You could add blue baskets for catching dirty laundry, blue wall décor or blue jars for holding toiletries. The idea is to add touches of dark, so as to not overwhelm your senses.
